Constructivist learning is an approach that positions students as active participants in the learning process through experience, social interaction, and reflection. This article aims to examine the role of constructivist learning in improving conceptual understanding and learning independence of secondary school students. The method used is a literature review analyzing accredited national journals related to constructivist theory and its implementation at the secondary education level. The findings indicate that constructivist learning enhances meaningful understanding, critical thinking skills, learning motivation, and students’ independence. In addition, the teacher’s role shifts from knowledge transmitter to learning facilitator. Therefore, constructivist learning is relevant for addressing the challenges of 21st-century education in secondary schools.
