Academic helplessness in junior high school students is a psychological condition characterized by passive attitudes and the belief that learning efforts will not change outcomes. This phenomenon is rooted in the theory of Learned Helplessness, which is reinforced by a fixed mindset, and is often misinterpreted as ordinary laziness. This article aims to analyze the identification and management strategies for academic helplessness through a scaffolding approach within the Zone of Proximal Development, which includes emotional, cognitive, and motivational support. The discussion in this article highlights the integration of learning psychology concepts into Guidance and Counseling (G&C) services, such as information services, group guidance, and individual counseling, and proposes practical implementation strategies to overcome challenges in the field. With a comprehensive approach, it is hoped that G&C teachers can help students break out of the cycle of helplessness and rebuild their motivation to learn.
