The decline in students interest in traditional games due to the dominance of digital
technology has prompted the need to integrate local wisdom into guidance and counseling
services in schools. This study aims to synthesize scientific evidence regarding the
integration of the traditional game of engklek as a medium in group guidance services for
junior high school students, including the forms of integration, the impact on social,
emotional, and behavioral development, the effectiveness compared, and the
implementation strategies. This study uses the SLR method based on the PRISMA 2020.
Literature search was conducted through Google Scholar in the period of 2014–2025 with
keywords related to engklek, group guidance, and junior high school, and limited to
Indonesian-language journal articles and full-text. The selection process using descriptive-
qualitative content analysis. The results show that engklek is integrated through an
experiential learning approach with game modifications and structured reflection, and has
a positive impact on student engagement, social-emotional development, and character.
Comparatively, game-based counseling services are more effective than conventional
services, so engklek has the potential to be an innovative and contextual counseling
medium in junior high schools
