Abstract

This article examines the humanistic approach in school guidance and counseling as an effort to support students’ socio-emotional development. Education is not only focused on academic achievement but also on students’ emotional and social growth. The humanistic approach views students as unique individuals who can develop optimally within a safe, empathetic, and accepting environment. This study employs a literature review by analyzing relevant journal articles on humanistic counseling and socio-emotional development. The discussion indicates that the implementation of a humanistic approach through individual counseling and group guidance services positively contributes to students’ emotional well-being, self-confidence, and social interaction skills. Despite challenges such as limited service time and educators’ readiness, the humanistic approach remains relevant and has strong potential to be continuously developed in schools to support students’ socio-emotional development.
