ABSTRACT
Communication skills are essential for senior high school students to support effective learning and social interaction. However, a valid and reliable instrument is needed to accurately assess these skills. This study aimed to examine the validity and reliability of a communication skills scale developed for senior high school students. The research employed a quantitative approach using an instrument development design involving 72 students. The instrument consisted of 25 items covering listening, speaking, and nonverbal communication skills. Item validity was analyzed using the Pearson Product-Moment correlation, while reliability was assessed using Cronbach’s Alpha with IBM SPSS Statistics 22. The findings revealed that all 25 items were valid, with item-total correlation coefficients exceeding the critical r-table value (0.244). The reliability analysis produced a Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient of 0.846, indicating high internal consistency. Therefore, the developed communication skills scale is valid, reliable, and suitable for assessing and mapping the communication skills of senior high school students.
