Abstract

Cheating behavior is a form of academic dishonesty that is frequently found among senior high school students. This behavior may negatively affect students’ character, academic integrity, and independent learning. Therefore, a valid and reliable instrument is needed to measure cheating behavior. This study aimed to examine the validity and reliability of a cheating behavior scale developed for senior high school students. The scale was constructed based on the dimensions of cheating behavior proposed by Fishbein and Ajzen, namely behavior, target, situation, and time. The initial instrument consisted of 21 Likert-scale items. Validity was tested using the Pearson Product-Moment Correlation, while reliability was analyzed using Cronbach’s Alpha with the assistance of IBM SPSS Statistics. The results showed that 14 of the 21 items met the validity criteria, whereas 7 items were invalid. The reliability analysis produced a Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient of 0.770, indicating reliable. These findings suggest that the cheating behavior scale has psychometric properties and is suitable for use as a instrument and an assessment tool in counseling services.
