A common phenomenon in the field of school guidance and counseling is the limited interest in utilizing individual counseling services. The condition that causes a person to be reluctant to seek help is referred to as a psychological barrier. A psychological barrier is an internal condition that prevents a person from seeking professional help when facing problems. Help-seeking behavior is an individual’s response in an effort to achieve peace in life. The purpose of this study is to explore the essence of students’ experiences in their efforts to understand themselves regarding help-seeking. This study employed a qualitative research method with a phenomenological approach, using inductive data analysis through the examination of interview transcripts and observation results to identify the focus of the research. The findings—doubts about the effectiveness of services, difficulty expressing problems, anxiety regarding social stigma, and feelings of awkwardness when accessing services—indicate that students’ decisions to seek help are influenced by both internal and social factors simultaneously.
