Abstract

Limited parental attention is one condition that can affect students’ psychological development, particularly in the formation of self-esteem. Students who receive limited emotional support from their families often show uncertainty about their abilities, feel less valued, and experience difficulty expressing confidence in social and academic settings. This article aims to discuss the relationship between limited parental attention and students’ self-esteem, as well as to explain the role of guidance and counseling services in strengthening students’ self-worth at school. The discussion shows that guidance and counseling services hold an important position as a safe, open, and structured support system for students. School counselors can help students recognize their personal strengths, manage negative emotions, develop the courage to express opinions, and build self-confidence through individual counseling, personal-social guidance, and communication with relevant parties. Thus, guidance and counseling services do not only function as a response to student problems, but also serve as a preventive and developmental effort to help students form a positive evaluation of themselves.
