Abstract

Adolescent communication patterns have undergone significant transformation in the digital age, driven largely by intensive social media engagement. This research examines the correlation between social media usage and communication ethics among secondary education students through a comprehensive literature review approach. By analyzing contemporary studies on digital platform engagement, ethical communication standards, and their collective impact on youth behavior, this study reveals that secondary students typically spend over 5 hours daily on social media platforms. A significant correlation exists between social media engagement patterns and shifts in communication ethics, evidenced by declining linguistic politeness, diminished privacy awareness, uncritical information sharing tendencies, and deteriorating face-to-face interaction quality. This correlation demonstrates complexity, moderated substantially by students' digital literacy competencies. Those possessing stronger digital literacy skills exhibit superior capability in maintaining ethical communication standards. The research advocates for integrated collaborative initiatives involving educational institutions, counseling professionals, students, and parents to establish robust digital literacy frameworks and comprehensive communication ethics education, fostering responsible social media engagement.
