Truancy is one of the most common forms of disciplinary violations in schools and is closely related to students’ self-control. This study aimed to describe the self-control of students who engaged in truancy at SMAN 6 Kediri. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. The participants consisted of three eleventh-grade students with a history of truancy and one school counselor as a supporting informant. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation. The findings showed that students’ self-control in truancy behavior was not optimal, particularly in behavioral control and decision-making control. Students tended to have difficulty resisting the urge to skip classes when they felt lazy, bored, or uncomfortable during lessons and were easily influenced by their peers. Truancy appeared in various forms, including leaving the classroom during lessons, arriving late, and not returning to class after breaks. The findings suggest that addressing truancy should not rely solely on disciplinary sanctions but should also include strengthening students’ self-control through continuous guidance and counseling services.
