Children with Special Needs (CSN) are children who have different developmental characteristics compared to typically developing children, requiring more optimal support, especially from the family environment. Parents play an important role as the first educators in providing attention, guidance, and support for children’s development. This article aims to examine the role of parents in the development of children with special needs based on theoretical and literature reviews. The discussion shows that parental roles are closely related to supporting children’s development in cognitive, social, and emotional aspects. Parental involvement in caregiving and education is a key factor influencing the optimal development of children with special needs. Therefore, it can be concluded that parental roles have an important contribution in supporting the overall development of children with special needs.
