Abstract

The transition from junior high school (SMP) to Madrasah Aliyah (MA) is not just a matter of changing schools, but also a crucial phase that brings various psychological and academic challenges for students. Many students experience anxiety, pressure, and lack of confidence as they try to adjust to a new learning environment. This study aims to explore the psychological and academic difficulties faced by 10th-grade MA students, as well as the strategies used by both students and the school to support their adjustment. This research used a qualitative approach with a case study design, conducted at MAN 2 Kota Kediri. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving students, guidance and counseling teachers, and homeroom teachers. The findings revealed that students commonly struggle with social anxiety, identity issues, and difficulty keeping up with lessons. To address these problems, the school implemented several strategies such as counseling sessions, strengthening students’ self-efficacy, and peer support. The study highlights the importance of comprehensive and continuous assistance to ensure a smoother educational transition for students.
