The Relationship Between Reading Habituation, Reading Interest, Basic Literacy of Elementary School StudentsAbstract
A This research is motivated by the low reading interest among students, which remains a challenge in the field of education. SDN Burengan 2 has implemented a 30-minute book reading program before learning activities as an effort to improve students’ reading interest. This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between reading habits and the reading interest of fifth-grade students. The research method used is a quantitative approach with a correlational research design. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 55 fifth-grade students. Data analysis was carried out using Pearson correlation. The results of the study show that there is a significant and positive relationship between reading habits and students’ reading interest, while no significant relationship was found between reading habits and students’ basic literacy skills. Thus, the habit of reading contributes to increasing students’ interest in reading but does not yet show a significant effect on their basic literacy abilities.
