Abstract

This study aimed to develop Mathales (Math Tales), an interactive picture story-based learning media for teaching three-dimensional geometry to fifth-grade elementary school students that meets the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The study employed the Development Studies method using Tessmer’s formative evaluation model, consisting of the preliminary, self-evaluation, expert review, one-to-one evaluation, small group evaluation, and field test stages. The research was conducted at SDN Godean 1, Loceret District, Nganjuk Regency, involving 14 fifth-grade students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and achievement tests. The data were analyzed descriptively using validity and practicality percentages as well as students’ pretest and posttest scores. The results showed that the developed media achieved a validity score of 90% from the material expert and 96% from the media expert, both categorized as highly valid. The practicality test yielded a score of 91.57%, indicating that the media was highly practical. Furthermore, students’ average learning outcomes improved from 42,86 on the pretest to 96.57 on the posttest, with all students achieving learning mastery. Therefore, the Mathales interactive picture story-based media is considered valid, practical, and effective for improving fifth-grade elementary school students’ understanding of three-dimensional geometry.
