This research was conducted to find a solution to the low speaking confidence and fluency among fifth-grade students at SDN Setonopande 1 Kediri. The purpose was to examine how effective role play is in improving students’ speaking skills. A quantitative method was applied using a one-group pre-test and post-test pre-experimental design. The participants were 21 students from the fifth grade. Data were collected through speaking performance assessments focusing on fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, accuracy, and confidence. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test was used for data analysis. The results showed a notable improvement in students' speaking abilities, with their average score increasing from 55 to 84.25. The statistical test produced a p-value of 0.000, confirming that role play had a significant positive impact on their speaking performance. Based on these findings, it is recommended to integrate role play into regular classroom activities to enhance students’ communication skills.
