Abstract

This study was conducted to address the need for problem-solving skills among guidance and counseling students aspiring to become school counselors.  The aim was to emphasize the importance of these skills in preparing for their professional careers as counselors.  Applying descriptive approach, this study used on data from the needs assessment of guidance and counseling students at Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta.  The results revealed that the average perception scores of students regarding problem-solving abilities were 67.6%.  The second aspect, namely the perception of problem-solving styles, had an average percentage of 67.1%.  In the third aspect, self-control skills showed a score of of 67.2%. All three aspects fall into the category of positive values.  This research reaffirms that these three aspects make a significant and important positive contribution to the professional careers of counselors or guidance counselors.  It underscores the necessity for guidance and counseling students, as prospective counselors, to acquire and refine these skills to achieve success in their professional careers in the field of guidance and counseling.
