Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of Problem-Based Learning (PBL)-based classical guidance services in enhancing the career understanding of Grade XI students at SMK Negeri 1 Kediri. The study was motivated by a needs assessment indicating that approximately 15% of students required career guidance intervention due to low levels of self-understanding and career decision-making skills. A quantitative approach was employed using a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 30 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a Likert-scale career understanding questionnaire that met validity requirements and demonstrated high reliability (Cronbach's Alpha = 0.955). Data analysis involved descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, a paired sample t-test, and N-Gain analysis. The results revealed a significant improvement in career understanding following the intervention (t = -12.450; p < 0.001), with an average N-Gain of 0.72, falling into the high category. These findings demonstrate that PBL-based classical guidance services are effective in enhancing students' career understanding through active engagement in problem-solving, critical thinking, and career decision-making.
