Prasasti Jayastamba Sebagai Transformasi Kata Anjuk Ladang Menjadi Nganjuk

The name of a city should have a strong historical background, as the name reflects the identity and strength of the region. The city of Nganjuk has a long history that can be traced through archaeological remains such as temples and inscriptions. One important historical evidence is the Jayastamba Inscription, a legacy of King Mpu Sindok from the Ancient Mataram Kingdom. This inscription contains accolades for the people of Nganjuk for helping Mataram in the war against the Sriwijaya Kingdom. The inscription mentions the name Samgat Mpu Anjuk Ladang, which is the forerunner of the name Nganjuk. Based on the content and dating of the inscription, it is established that the founding date of Nganjuk is April 10, 937 AD. With this historical basis, it is important for the Nganjuk Regency Government to protect historical sites and raise public awareness, especially among the younger generation, through education and socialization about the origins and historical values of their region.
