This study examines multicultural counseling as a preventive intervention against
intolerance among students. Indonesia’s cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity
can enrich social life but also trigger conflicts when not managed effectively.
Using a systematic literature review method, this study analyzes theories and
research related to multicultural counseling and intolerance in educational
settings. The findings indicate that intolerance among students often arises from
stereotypes, prejudice, and limited multicultural awareness. Multicultural
counseling plays a significant preventive role by developing cultural awareness,
empathy, and positive cross-cultural interactions. Additionally, it strengthens
students’ digital literacy, enabling them to identify and resist intolerant narratives
in online spaces. This study concludes that multicultural counseling is an effective
strategy to reduce prejudice, foster inclusive attitudes, and create a harmonious
school environment.
