Abstract

Nomophobia has emerged as a prevalent psychosocial issue among Generation

Z who grow up with intensive smartphone use since early age. Excessive

dependence on mobile devices has been associated with anxiety, loneliness, and

decreased social interaction. This article aims to review the literature on the

application of Solution Focused Brief Counseling (SFBC) to address nomophobia

in Gen Z. A literature study method was employed by reviewing scholarly articles,

journals, and previous studies related to nomophobia and SFBC. The findings

indicate that nomophobia is significantly correlated with psychological factors such

as loneliness, while SFBC is theoretically relevant as a short-term, goal-directed,

and solution-oriented counseling approach. SFBC emphasizes clients’ strengths,

resources, and future orientation, making it suitable for Gen Z who prefer practical

and immediate solutions. The integration of SFBC into counseling services is

considered a promising strategy to reduce nomophobia by fostering coping skills,

self-regulation, and constructive technology use. Further empirical studies are

recommended to examine the effectiveness of SFBC interventions in reducing

nomophobia levels among adolescents and young adults.
