Abstract

The increasing globalization and social mobility have intensified intercultural interactions, including within counseling settings where counselors and clients come from diverse cultural backgrounds. These differences often lead to communication barriers caused by distinct values, perceptions, and emotional expressions. Misunderstandings and stereotypes can hinder the therapeutic process and reduce client trust. Multicultural counseling offers an approach emphasizing counselors’ sensitivity, knowledge, and skills in understanding cultural diversity. By developing self-awareness of personal biases and adapting counseling techniques to clients’ cultural contexts, counselors can create empathetic and safe communication spaces. This study aims to explore how multicultural counseling helps overcome intercultural communication barriers and promotes inclusivity and effectiveness in counseling. The findings highlight that multicultural perspectives enable counselors to build balanced therapeutic relationships, affirm cultural identity, and foster empowerment through culturally responsive practices.
