Friendship plays an important role in students' social and emotional development at
school. However, students with different personality types experience friendship
differently. This study aimed to explore the friendship experiences of introverted and
extroverted students at SMAN 1 Kediri. This research employed a qualitative approach
with a phenomenological design. Four students participated in the study, consisting of
two introverted students and two extroverted students. Data were collected through in
depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The data were analyzed using
Creswell's phenomenological analysis procedures. The findings showed that
extroverted students tended to initiate social interactions more easily, possessed
broader friendship networks, adapted more quickly to new environments, and
expressed their feelings openly. In contrast, introverted students were more selective
in choosing friends, preferred meaningful relationships, required more time to adapt,
and were more cautious in expressing emotions. Despite these differences, both
personality types considered friendship an important source of support and comfort in
school life.
