Abstract

Reading comprehension is a crucial skill for language learning, and it is a result of
practice and habituation. This research aimed to determine the effect of using the
skimming-scanning technique on the reading comprehension of class XI2 students’
at SMA Negeri 7 Kediri. The study used quantitative approach, using pre-test,
treatment, and post-test data collection. The results showed an average pre-test
score of 62.14 and post-test score of 81.28, with a significant difference between
pre-test and post-test scores. The researchers suggest that the skimming-scanning
technique can be applied to improve reading comprehension, allowing English
teachers to address students' difficulties in learning English.
