Abstract

This research aims to describe methods and media, identify approaches, and
analyze the effectiveness of online counseling in addressing academic problems
among students. It employs a literature review and uses 17 relevant journal articles
as data sources. The data collection technique involves document analysis
combined with content analysis. The collected data is selected, assessed,
extracted, compiled, and analyzed The findings are as follows: 1) Media that
facilitate successful online counseling include video conferencing, web-based
applications, text-based applications, smartphone applications, and chatbots;; 2)
Online counseling methods encompass Group Counseling with Self-Management,
Reality-Based Online Counseling, Internet-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
(ICBT), Web-Based Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Expressive Writing
Therapy, Digital Storytelling, Integrative Counseling, Psychological Chatbots,
Internet-Based Mindfulness-Based Interventions, E-Group Self-Care Art Therapy;
3) The analysis indicates online counseling effectively addresses academic issues
such as procrastination, self-disclosure, academic honesty, self-regulation, stress,
humility, well-being, resilience, buoyancy, burnout, and self-efficacy. The study
recommends further research to develop, promote, and train practitioners in online
counseling methods and media to optimize student development and address
academic problem effectively.
