This study was motivated by a common problem: misunderstandings between
parties, caused by errors in perceiving and interpreting the information conveyed.
The objective of this study was to determine whether group counseling using the
sociodrama technique can improve the interpersonal communication skills of
students at SMK PGRI 4 Kediri. A quantitative approach was used. The population
of this study consists of 101 10th-grade students at SMK PGRI 4 Kediri. The sample
comprised the 10th-grade TKJ class, consisting of 22 students. Based on the
results of the pre-test, 8 students were selected to receive the sociodrama
intervention, using purposive sampling. The results of the paired-sample t-test
showed that the calculated t-value was 11. 938, which is higher than the critical t
value, or 11.938 > 2.44692. The N-Gain score of 99.08 falls into the “effective”
category because 99.08 > 76%. Thus, it has been proven that the use of the
sociodrama technique in group counseling is effective in improving students’
interpersonal communication skills.
