Peran PPKn Dalam Meningkatkan Kesadaran Demokrasi Pada Siswa SMKN 2 Kota Kediri

This study aims to describe the role of the Pancasila and Civic Education (PPKn) subject in enhancing students' democratic awareness. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach using in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis. The research subjects consisted of two PPKn teachers and ten 10th-grade students from SMKN 2 Kota Kediri, selected through purposive sampling. The findings indicate that PPKn plays a crucial role in shaping students' understanding of democratic principles, such as active participation, freedom of expression, and tolerance toward differences. PPKn teachers act as facilitators and role models in creating democratic discussion spaces and encouraging student involvement in deliberation activities and school organizations. However, the study also reveals several challenges in the implementation of PPKn, including passive student attitudes, limited instructional time, and a tendency among students to perceive the subject matter as overly theoretical. This study recommends the use of more contextual, participatory, and real-life-relevant teaching methods to optimize the role of PPKn in fostering democratic awareness within the school environment.
