Abstract

Learning outcomes in Social Studies (IPS) are a significant challenge in education at Madrasah Tsanawiyah. This study aims to investigate the application of puzzle media in a direct learning model to improve the learning outcomes of ninth-grade students at MTs Roudlotul Muslimin Waung-Sonoageng during the 2024-2025 academic year. The research employed the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method, conducted over two cycles, consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. Puzzle media was used in the direct learning model, with data collected through learning outcome tests and observations of student activities.The results show improvement in each cycle. In the first cycle, the application of puzzle media achieved an effectiveness rate of 20.50%, indicating low effectiveness. Teachers faced challenges in classroom management and student motivation. the application of puzzle media increased to 30.60%, demonstrating progress in classroom management, and learning outcomes also improved. The average class score in the first cycle was 68.15, below the Minimum Mastery Criterion (KKM), with a learning outcome percentage of only 32.80%. In the second cycle, the average learning outcome rose significantly to 85.29%, indicating that the majority of students had achieved the KKM.
