Abstract

Academic stress is a psychological burden that generally occurs when students experience academic demands that exceed their capabilities, particularly during the clinical practice phase for nursing students, which can impact their academic achievement and mental health. This study aimed to describe the academic stress levels of nursing students in the Nursing Study Program at Universitas Nusantara PGRI Kediri in 2026. The research employed a quantitative descriptive design. The sample consisted of 146 nursing students selected using total sampling technique. Data were collected using the Perceived Academic Stress Scale (PASS) questionnaire developed by Bedewy and Gabriel (2015) and modified by Murdhiono and Vidayanti (2022), which had been validated with a Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient of 0.818. Data analysis was performed using univariate analysis in the form of frequency distribution. The results showed that the majority of students experienced moderate academic stress, with 87% of respondents (127 students), 10% (15 students) in the high academic stress category, and only 3% (4 students) in the low academic stress category. The conclusion of this study is that the combination of moderate and high stress levels encompasses almost all respondents, so this condition requires attention. These findings emphasize the importance of developing and implementing effective stress management interventions, such as counseling services, peer support groups, and curriculum adjustments, to support students' academic success and psychological well-being.
