Generation Z has grown up in a digital environment saturated with rapid,
algorithmdriven flows of information, making the formation of their social and political
attitudes a complex process. Cognitively, adolescents at the formal operational
stage are capable of abstract thinking through processes of assimilation and
accommodation; however, this capacity faces challenges due to exposure to
misinformation, political framing, and emotionally charged content in digital media.
This study aims to examine the cognitive filtering processes of Generation Z in
evaluating political information and leadership candidates, using a descriptive
qualitative approach that highlights cognitive development, digital literacy, social
influences, and the role of algorithm-based media. The findings indicate that the
filtering of political information is influenced by critical thinking ability, emotional
regulation, social pressure, and the formation of identity and nationalist values.
