Abstract

Folklore is a story that has elements of values ​​and norms for the state of a society in ancient times which was then passed down in oral form or written down through the media as learning materials, reflections, and examples. As the inheritor of the ancestors, it is proper to maintain and preserve the culture that has been given to the ancestors. The moral message contained in folklore is of course the basis for the formation of character education, such as hard work, discipline, etc. Moreover, character education should be taught to early childhood. The application of folklore such as the story of Malin Kundang is expected to be able to indirectly provide positive moral values ​​to elementary school students, such as politeness, activeness, etc. The purpose of this study is the formation of character values ​​in elementary school students with the folklore of Malin Kundang, it is hoped that by giving the folklore of Malin Kundang students are able to apply the moral values ​​contained in the folklore.
