Abstract

The findings of the research indicated that the aspects of social loafing displayed by students with low positive relations with others varied, including passive attitudes, free rider, transferring tasks to others, and lacking awareness of others' evaluation.  The factors contributing to social loafing were attributed to personality and low self-efficacy. These two factors complemented each other and underpinned the emergence of other factors such as group cohesiveness, group interactions, and task characteristics.  The social loafing exhibited had individual-level impacts, such as reduced ability to maximize personal potential, while group-level impacts included hindrance to productivity and decreased group cohesiveness. Each school counselor employed different strategies, such as commitment letters, counseling services, and in-class announcements.
