This conceptual article explores the humanistic values embedded in the lived experiences of people with mental disorders (ODGJ) as an alternative foundation for psychosocial resilience within the complexities of contemporary socio-cultural life. Drawing on modern and contemporary philosophy, cultural psychology, Islamic perspectives on human dignity, and major guidance and counseling (BK) theories including cognitive, emotive-behavioral, humanistic, and constructivist approaches, the analysis identifies four central values: existential simplicity, radical acceptance, non-linear emotional adaptation, and authentic minimalist connectedness. These values challenge dominant resilience frameworks that rely heavily on cognitive performance and behavioral control, offering instead a culturally grounded understanding of how meaning, emotional rhythm, and relational depth support survival in uncertain contexts. Positioned within Indonesia’s cultural landscape, these values contribute to the development of more responsive BK models and community-based psychosocial frameworks. The article argues that recognizing ODGJ as holders of existential wisdom broadens theoretical perspectives and provides predictive insight for future resilience research across educational and community settings.
