Global environmental change demands innovative approaches that
integrate ecosystem functions with human needs. One emerging
approach is Nature-Based Solutions (NbS), which utilize natural
processes to address environmental and social challenges. This
article reviews the application of phytotechnology as a practical
form of NbS in supporting the achievement of the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs). Through a literature review, it was
found that phytotechnology plays an important role in water
quality management, contaminated soil remediation, and
biodiversity conservation. This approach is aligned with SDG 6
(clean water and sanitation), SDG 13 (climate action), and SDG 15
(life on land). However, challenges in its implementation in
Indonesia include policy limitations, scale of application, and
community engagement. This article recommends strengthening
local research, integrating NbS policies, and developing
phytotechnology education models to promote sustainable
development.
