Abstract

The main problem was identified from the learning conditions that
were still dominated by lecture methods and the use of conventional
written Student Worksheets (LKPD), resulting in students having
difficulty understanding the abstract concept of the Greenhouse
Effect. This condition was reinforced by the absence of concrete
teaching aids, which also hampered the training of students' Critical
Thinking Skills (KBK). This study aimed to analyze the need for
innovative teaching media for Global Warming material to improve
high school students' Critical Thinking Skills (KBK). The study was a
qualitative descriptive study with a focus on needs analysis. Data
were obtained through structured interviews using interview
guidelines as an instrument, with the subject being a Grade X
Biology Teacher of SMAN 1 Kandat. Interview data were analyzed
through data reduction and used to determine the specifications for
developing teaching media. The results of the needs analysis
showed that the practice of learning Global Warming material had
not been running optimally due to the absence of concrete teaching
media. Teachers agreed and needed teaching media that could
visualize the Greenhouse Effect in real terms. Therefore, the
researcher recommended the Simple Terrarium Teaching Media
Greenhouse Effect Model. This terrarium is believed to be an
effective solution by providing a hands-on experimental model that
allows students to directly observe and analyze temperature
increase data. The development of this media is expected to not only
facilitate understanding of concepts but also significantly improve
students' critical thinking skills through the process of observing and
analyzing scientific data.
