Abstract

This study aims to analyze student characteristics, learning interests,
and the relationship between attendance and learning outcomes in the
Human Anatomy course at the Physical Education and Sports Study
Program, Universitas Nusantara PGRI Kediri. The Human Anatomy
course is offered in the first semester and focuses on bones, joints, and
muscles, while organ function is studied in the Human Physiology course
in the second semester. The diverse educational backgrounds of students
(science, social studies, and vocational high schools) encourage the
implementation of a Student-Centered Learning (SCL) approach. The
research method employed a survey using questionnaires distributed
randomly across four classes (I-A, I-B, I-C, and I-G), along with analysis
of learning outcomes based on midterm exam (UTS) scores and
attendance rates. The results indicate that 52% of students have never
participated in sports competitions, and only 5.2% have participated
without achieving championship titles. Students’ interest in learning
anatomy is primarily focused on understanding body structures to
support health and physical fitness. Meanwhile, interest in physiology
topics for the following semester varies, with distributions of 24%, 24%,
19%, and 41% across four topic options. The average midterm scores per
class were 71.36 (I-A), 55.7 (I-B), 63.35 (I-C), and 81.5 (I-G). Attendance
rates also varied, with averages of 90.75 (I-A), 68.8 (I-B), 94 (I-C), and
99.75 (I-G). A positive correlation was found between attendance and
learning outcomes, where classes with higher attendance tended to
achieve better academic performance. Based on these findings, the
instructional strategy was enhanced by integrating physiological insights
into each session and applying a combination of lectures and discussions
(45%), as well as simulations and practical activities (41%), in line with
student preferences. In conclusion, a student-centered learning
approach that adapts to students’ backgrounds and interests, along with
improved attendance, contributes to optimizing learning outcomes in
the Human Anatomy course.
