Abstract

This study uses a qualitative approach aimed at understanding the impact of online games on the academic performance of students at SMK PGRI 4 Kediri. The research data were collected using interview and observation techniques sourced from students and counseling teachers. Data analysis was carried out in three stages: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The research results indicate that the phenomenon of online game addiction at SMK PGRI 4 Kediri is very concerning. Several factors contributing to online game addiction include lack of attention and affection from parents, easy access to the internet, and the influence of peers in their social environment. The impacts of online game addiction are that students often experience mood changes, anxiety, lack of sleep, and poor vision, which ultimately lead to a decline in academic performance. The countermeasures taken by the guidance and counseling teachers to address online game addiction include restricting students' use of mobile phones at school, conducting awareness sessions for students on the proper use of smartphones, and organizing socialization activities about the negative impacts of online games.
